Inspiration

I touched the sky.
For a moment,
I was floating,
Had my hands up in the air.
Peter picked a
Peter picked a pickled
Peter Pan,
Got me flying like a spaceman.

Can’t see his wings
But I know his wingspan
Can reach beyond,
What any Man could,
Over mountains.
Over oceans.
Over sand.
More than any
Man has done before.
Cause he’s not lost, Boy.

Chuckling,
Quick like I couldn’t
Let the beat skip,
Couldn’t let it pass me by
Like an oasis
in the middle of this little desert
that we’ve gotten
ourselves whirled into
And the whirlwinds are speeding
like the slightest movements
Back in the cityscape where
The leaves break
their backs to talk to each other
over landlines and lunch breaks.

Flipping to the left
Gotta get it right
Skipping like I’m
In between the
Dark of death
And the fall of night.

And then we will pretend
That everything
Is back to silver and gold.
Awakening from a hidden
Desire.
Transcribing.
Dreams set on fire.

And the letters
Are framed with intricacy
Cause there’s
This burning
Beneath the place
Where my nails
Grow,
Domed over like
Little cellophane walls.
Flames pour from
My Fingertips while
I’m Dousing
fires with my palms.

I couldn’t imagine
Myself, walking in there alone,
Without the brain
That I call home,
At the helm of the throne
Captains’ calling
for my inner Charlie Chaplin.
My shoes got me tap dancing
All girly like surely,
Shirley Temple.

Taking the steps down,
One at a time.
One step down the incline.
Not a footstep back,
Forward,
Like we’re breaking bread,
Over a table,
Labeled: Peace and Love
Specks of sunlight and a white dove.

A reminder of
The things
That are a little
Less than the finer things in life.
The way
You rattled my soul,
Got my head
hungover,
bent over
a lot less colder.

I wanted to hold his tired body
As I crisscrossed my arms
protect him from harm.
And he’d lay his weary head
across my breasts,
To let the beat in my chest,
Soothe it just a little bit.

And within the ocean of madness
That surrounds us.
The love engulfs us
Like the shape of water
In a glass,
Half empty,
And half full.
