New Beginnings

You stand within a corridor of several entries.
Doors painted gold.
They are without panes of glass
Or ornamental calligraphy.
Your hands conduct electric waves
that vibrate when you touch them.
The door reverberates like a holographical oil slick
that turns to dust when you pull away.
In your pocket, you hold three keys.
Smallest to largest and you are in charge of which key goes into which.
Sterling Silver.
Iron.
Stone.
“You have gotten this far,” you think
as you tinker and sink
into your own mind
for a complex amount of time.
Your palms clam and your collar tightens.
Thinking microscopically, you shuddered.
Of course, you are frightened, what if you picked the wrong one?
What if you only have one chance?
You elongate your time by fiddling around
and stammering over your own footsteps.
You pace almost nearly tripping over
your undone shoelace
which you attend to shortly after.
Having taken your mind off of the doors that tower before you,
Your mind quiets.
You’re at ease almost as if the silence
and the experience of returning back to yourself
was enough to calm you.
You think of the three keys and the three doors.
You remember that they are from smallest to large.
The order in which you had received them.
You were so worried that you had forgotten
that all the doors looked exactly the same.
You quieted yourself to a chuckle
as you knotted your shoes’ third knot.
You stood again and returned to the matter at hand:
Three doors, three keys.
And you proceed.
The first door opened quite gently
to the touch of the Sterling Key.
Inside it revealed
a glorious grassland with deer grazing in the distance
and all at once you were one with nature.
The second door allowed you entrance after using the Stone Key.
It swung wide open as if pulled by the wind
to the hustle and bustle of the city.
Smiles and deep embraces from a group on the street,
and it may well have been summertime
because everyone’s skin looked so sublime.
But in this instance, they could not see you.
You were a mere number of steps
from inclining into a vibrant world
with what seemed like enthusiastic people.
But you instead took a step back and pondered for a moment,
your hands running over the
beveled parts of the Iron Key.
You inserted it into the lock of the final door.
Silence surrounded you.
You swelled with quiet excitement.
Upon opening it, all was dark at first.
Within the hollow, you could feel a presence but not see it, and so you peered in a little deeper.
Before you an omniplexus of constellations and galaxies
that held centuries worth of written word and celestial delicacies.
A fount of knowledge,
All at your fingertips.
You felt overwhelmed with much joy and passion,
but the decision on which to choose haunted you.
And you envisioned that you chose them all
and as you willed it.
It became.
You released your anxieties having realized you owned the keys.
No one could take them from you unless you offered them.
You could now pass freely through
to the bounty that had been set before you.
You thrust yourself into the midst of
a carnation of petals that give you a chance
to explore a world. It seemed
like mere condensation in the middle of an ocean.
You opened the doors to unlimited possibilities.
